The Big Dipper

Sadly, one of the Mill Creek Falls Neighborhood's gems won't be returning for the 2014 season. For the past 18 years, the Big Dipper was a local destination on a warm, summer evening for anything cold - especially ice cream.
Many of us walked, biked or drove by on our way home to buy a treat at the corner of Bancroft and E. 86 Street.

You were almost guaranteed to run into a fellow Mill Creek resident there. On really hot days, seats at the iron, old fashioned tables and chairs were very popular. While outside, many of us sat on the brick wall trying to eat our ice cream before it melted.

You also mixed with neighbors that lived nearer the local store. Scores of little league baseball players could also be seen celebrating a win, or even a loss, with an ice cream cone - usually Superman flavor (their #1 flavor, per Bill).

Good luck to Bill and his staff that we have grown to know over the years. Thanks for taking the time to talk to us and for being able to predict our orders after so many visits. You will be missed. Especially on a warm, summer evening.
